Skills in Demand (482)

Recruitment support for employers hiring skilled workers through the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482).

About the visa

Understanding the Skills in Demand visa

The Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) allows approved Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers when suitable local workers are not available. It replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage visa in December 2024.

Eligibility depends on the occupation, salary, the employer's status as an approved sponsor and the candidate's skills and experience. Your registered migration agent can confirm whether a role qualifies.

Key things employers should know

01

Sponsor obligations

Sponsoring employers have ongoing legal obligations to the worker and the Department of Home Affairs.

02

Timeframes vary

Processing times depend on the case and can change. Plan recruitment well ahead.

03

Professional advice

Always get advice from a registered migration agent before nominating a worker.

Recruitment and migration advice are separate. SMART Recruitment provides recruitment services. We do not give immigration advice or lodge visa applications. Where sponsorship or visa advice is required, we refer employers and candidates to an independent registered migration agent. Visa outcomes are decided by the Department of Home Affairs and can never be guaranteed.
